One of the things I love the most about staying in Airbnbs is that they give me the ability to experience a completely different type of life than the one I’m currently living! I can see where other people live, how they decorate their homes, and sometimes the unique things they even consider homes!  This post is part of my Accomodations Series and will teach you everything you need to know about unique Airbnbs, including why you should consider staying in one, the types of unique Airbnbs you can find, how to find unique Airbnbs, and things to consider when booking unique Airbnbs!

Why You Should Consider Staying in Unique Airbnbs

Unique Airbnbs add texture to your travel experience. They make for great and interesting places to call home base while you explore a new place you’ve never been, and they make for great stories when you get home. While I’ve never been the person to shell out money for a luxurious hotel experience, I’m absolutely the person who will go out of my way to stay in an amazing and interesting place while I’m on the road!

The Types of Unique Airbnbs

Over the years, I’ve stayed in a variety of unique Airbnbs, including a tree house in Glen Rose, Texas; a tiny casita in an garden with an outdoor bathroom in Taos, New Mexico; a barndominium in Terlingua, Texas; and an adorable tiny home behind a Victorian house in Dallas. Things to Keep in Mind When Staying at Unique Airbnbs

  • Read all of the fine print! Unique Airbnbs are more likely to have nonstandard accomodations or requirements of their guests, and you should be aware of everything before you get there! For example, here’s a video of my best and worst Airbnb experiences (both of which happened to be Unique Airbnb types):

  • Make sure you especially understand the bathroom situation! This should include whether or not there will be towels available. (I’ve forgotten my towel when staying in a unique Airbnb before.)
  • Book early and be flexible on your dates if you can! In order to stay in the tree house in the video above, I had to shift my travel dates by a day and leave after work on a Thursday because the treehouse was booked for every weekend for the folllowing couple of months.
