The first thing to do to make your car camper is to make a bed of some sort. While some people manage to sleep by putting the driver’s seat back or curling up in the back seat, I decided to build a foldable Honda Civic bed with custom bedding. I even made a privacy tent for the inside of my car, though ultimately I found it wasted a lot of space so I don’t use it very often anymore.

Once you start camping or living in your car, your car is going to suddenly feel VERY SMALL. Set yourself up to take advantage of the outdoor space as much as possible by planning your living spaces outdoors such as cooking or relaxing.

Comfortable Car Camping Tip Three: Get Ready to BE Outside!

Pack things to help you be more comfortable outside. In the summer, this includes bug spray, sunscreen, a hat, and a rain poncho or rain jacket. Bonus points for waterproof boots of some kind! In the winter, consider warm layers and rechargable hand warmers.
